I crashed into some new music yesterday while surfing the web. If you haven't heard Dubstep is like 3-D TV right now, it's the newest, freshest cheese on the market. Like if Hip-Hop beats and British Electro synth had sex this is their musical love child. With so many styles and variations Dubstep appeals to a wide audience and produces a wild time. Mimosa is no exception with his own take on the genre. Throwing down out of Oakland/LA, Mimosa is on tour currently and you can check out all the dates on their myspace.

So last night all of us here at Basic Physics went to First Ave. for Chromeo and it was nothing short of spectacular. There was a great crowd and the lighting was awesome. The duo puts out the energy at their shows and had everyone dancing, clapping, and singing along all night. The only bad thing I can say is that they didn't play long enough. The Too Much Love after party was more than enough to keep me going with a special Holy Ghost! DJ set. At least half of Chromeo could be seen mingling with the crowd throughout the night and even got in on some DJing if im not mistaken. Well it only happens every 4 years and as usual it's over before I know it. It was a great month full of ESPN soccer highlights and way too much Lexi Lalis. After suffering an early defeat in pool play, Spain proved that they were worth the hype and capped off any impressive tournament by beating a very game Dutch Squad. In the meantime we will have to wait hoping the US brings it in 2014. Cheers to Spain, mad props to Arjen Robben and enjoy some sweet beats.

It's been a while since I've posted, but I have a couple Two Door Cinema Club tracks that have been remixed to near perfection. Two Door Cinema Club is an Electropop/Indie Rock band from Bangor and Donaghadee, Northern Ireland. They have become quite a hit through the blogosphere and have been remixed by some pretty big names. The Ted and Francis Remix of "Something Good Can Work" is just straight up addictive. It has such a catchy flow and is a track that has a summer feel like no other. LightsoverLA put their twist on "What You Know" and is a perfect combination of electro and indie. I am a sucker for indie/electro combos so this track has become one of my favorites.

I have 3 songs for you tonight that I already know are gonna be my jams for the rest of the summer. I don't know how I was lucky enough to stumble upon all 3 in one day, but sometimes I have a keen eye and a couple hours to kill. I want to say so much about each track, how they grab my attention, build so smoothly and have the perfect amount of summer funk. Lil Weezy

Everyone's guilty pleasure, hidden favorite, or outright go-to guy. I'd be happy to sit any of you disbelievers down for 30 minutes, and convince you of Lil Wayne. Kagan-Kans and I can convert anyone.

Anyway, part of Lil Wayne's success stems from his simply ridiculous work ethic. Despite smoking multiple blunts in any 24 hour period, Weezy turns out up to three or four songs a day! While many artists stick to there studio albums and official guest spots, Lil Wayne seems to jump on every track he can.

And, most of the time, it works (However, 'Rebirth' the punk rock album, is kind of weird). Either mixing himself into tracks or actually joining singers and rappers, Wayne catalog is enormous. Check out these two tracks I recently found on the nets.

Not much explanation needed here, just take a listen. Watch the (American) Office television program if you're still confused. I like his first verse, talking about being a king.

Electrik Red feat. Lil Wayne - So Good (Remix) (Listen/DL)

Electrik Red is produced by The-Dream. This funky track is signature of The-Dream's groovy feel, and velvety synth feel. I like this track a lot because of the drums. On his RnB heavy solo albums, The-Dream doesn't hit as hard as tracks like this or his other big hit, Rihanna's Umbrella.

... is a talented Hip-Hop producer from Philadelphia (and my roommate) with good range, keen sampling, music knowledge, and diverse influences. I've seem him sample everything from Etta James to Tom Waits. We've thrown a few Hip-Hop dance parties and are planning another this spring at Carleton College. Look out for that, all are welcome.

features the startling vocal abilities of the young Abby Kring. I'm personally very excited to see what else these two do together. A young Dessa in the making? I posit 'yes.'

Jake Kring - La Gollondrina (Listen/DL)

perfect song to drink a lot and attempt freestyle. The intro sample reminds me of like intro music to a 50's sitcom when the dad is coming home from work, the mom cooking dinner, the kids are playing, shit like that. And then the best drops and it becomes a really groovy, soul, Hip-Hop track, complete with scratching, a string melody, and cut up vocals (in Spanish??). Great track.

If you haven't heard of the group Nightmares On Wax yet check them out right away. I was introduced to the group by a friend about 8 years ago and I've been a fan ever since. Originating in Leeds, UK, Nightmares On Wax is the creation of George Evelyn aka DJ EASE. George has been producing mad music since 1991 under this moniker and has released 8 full length albums since then. His latest, released in 2008, is titled Thought So... and carries on the styling of his previous works. Before they became the hit LA duo Classixx, Michael David and Tyler Blake were Young Americans. Though they may still in fact be young americans at heart Classixx truly have grown into a producing power house and I just can't stop myself from grabbing anything associated with these guys. It's easy to tell how their sound has progressed from their days as Young Americans but this style still comes out in their newest works. This remix of the song Bombs by Scanners is a throwback taste of the melodic, disco-elastic, dance sound that Classixx is famous for today.

Our Gear and The Crowd

Like Dan said we all had a blast this weekend in Eau Claire, thanks again to the great crowd that showed up and awesome support from all our friends over there. Playing our first show as a duo couldn't have gone any better and I'd like to thank Syse for inviting us to come play. I'd also like to make a big shout out to the crew at Soundwaves for coming out and setting up some great lighting for us, it really gave the club a perfect atmosphere. So yeah killer weekend.

On to this coming weekend; it's gonna be a big one for Syse and Basic Physics. Two huge shows, 2 nights in a row this coming Friday and Saturday at the Majestic in Madison. Lotus will be the headliner and I'm definitely pump to see them throw down. These guys play a lot of festivals and theatres around the country and I'm sure they are gonna let it hang out in Madison. Another great year in Minnesota down and with 2010 right around the corner I'm sure we all will be in for a lot of surprises. Dan and I have taken it upon ourselves to single handedly change how the midwest thinks about electronic/dance music by bringing great tracks directly to the people. Checking in with some new tracks this evening for you guys, making the most of my Monday night. I'm sitting at my computer listening to the set that Syse and Zeigler played in Madison this past weekend and it's great. I love the samples and I think it had a great flow and energy throughout. I also finally got a chance to check out the new album titled My Way from the King of Manchester Ian Brown. Ian is an English musician and former lead singer of the alternative rock band The Stone Roses. He is widely considered to be one of the pioneering members of the Madchester scene. Brown explained that the album was inspired by Michael Jackson's Thriller and was release September 28, 2009. Check out Ian's official website here to pick up the album.

Here's a new track I found recently from the boss dog Snoop D O Dub. As the embodiment of 90's gangsta rap Snoop has always blurred the line between reality and fiction. This track is definitely an escape from his gangsta style and is clearly more of a dance track then anything else. Featuring upcoming R&B singer The Dream and produced by Tricky Stewart, I'm sure you guys will dig this song.

Groove Armada are Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, a jungle and bass duo that are know for their numerous collaborations as well commercial, video game and movie work. They are based in London, and continue to produce and record music, while hosting semi-regular club nights in London and an annual London festival under the Lovebox banner. Here is a great track with some big bass, key if you're rock the Caribbean beach clubs like these guys....enjoy!

After the release of "The Blackout 2" its clear that Meth and Red aren't done putting out catchy hip-hop tracks. There are a ton of great beats and rhymes on this album I really recommend checking it out. The Duo did a sweet job building on the first album, taking the same feel and adding to it. Chiddy Bang is a rising Hip-Hop group out of Philly that I luckily stumbled upon the other day. An MC by the name of Chidera “Proto” Anamege is the lyrical mastermind on this one and their electronic/afro hip-hop sound comes from producer Xaphoon Jones and his rather creative sampling and synth work. Hope everyone made it through the week. It was my frist week back from spring break and man was it a brutal week to get through. I miss the Dominican. Today I thought I would share an original that I've made. I have a few upcoming gigs and have been working hard to get a few tracks finished. The first light is powered by a hard-hitting synth line that is the base for the track. It was the first original track that I created.

The last time I felt this excited was the small strip of summer I had before leaving for Israel, culminating with a stroll Mitch and I took in the Arb at Carleton on a gorgeous day in July. With seeing the West Bank, work in the winter, "Ron's Journey," and a really hard term it's been shitty. But I'm excited about the spring: frisbee, the summer, Ron is getting better, my classes won't be too hard, more free time, more hanging-out, Carleton in the spring is awesome and I can't wait. Well looks like my last post got taken down. I haven't heard yet why but I have a sneaking suspicious it was that Beyonce track that did it. So my favorite DJ/producer/remixer Anoraak remixed my favorite electro-pop/dance group Futurecop! and the result is awesome. Both groups share the spacey, synth-heavy, 80's pop music feel. Everything I've heard from Anoraak is gold. This track is not as hard-hitting as other club tracks (I would only play this at the appropriate dance party, a more chill, almost rave type), but it's production, build, sound, beat, and mixture make this a really solid track. What a day! Just got done watching the inauguration ceremony. Big day in US history. Anyways, I think it's time to get this blog rollin' again. I have been doing some mixing with ableton and I have a new one for you guys. Lady Gaga's song "Just Dance" has taken over about every college party/dance club, but I thought that it could be a little more up beat. I decided to mix "Just Dance" with Madonna's "Hung Up." The result: In my opinion, a remix arguabley better than the original. Take a listen and let me know.

Futurecop! The 80s style, synth-heavy, pop-electro, dance duo from England are going to save pop music. Or so they claim... With no formal albums to their name, a smatter of remixes and originals slowly seeping through the dance blogoshpere, I wouldn't be surprised if Futurecop! was a world known group in a few years time. Feist- I Feel It All (Diplo Remix)

Diplo's new remix of the soft toned Feist track "I Feel It All", bounces in typical Diplo melodic fashion. Following a trend of minimalistic electronica this track relies on a cheeky echo synth and well placed percussion licks to drive a soothing indie vocal. Feist, a Canadian born singer/songwriter, after gaining notoriety in 2007 for the single 1234 has become the source of a number of quality dance reworks, and a remix by a producer in such high demand as Diplo will only help to raise the stock of this solo artist among the indie/dance community.

A couple tracks I've held on too for a long time here for ya. First B-Song recorder at Bonaroo in 2002 this recording is for me the epitome of classical jazz duets a truly moving performance. Wind is another recording by the duo which is light and peaceful. Devin Copeland, better known by his stage name, Devin the Dude, is a Houston based hip-hop artist. He is best known for his exceptionally unique rapping style and his long career after signing to Rap-A-Lot Records. The New York Times has called him "A brilliant oddball with a spaced-out flow."
